Get Ahead of Your New Year’s Resolutions

Have you been thinking about your new year’s resolutions? Is one of them to get a new job? If so, have you been thinking about the type of role and company you’d like?

You can get ahead of your resolution (not to mention the competition) by starting the job search now. The best thing you can do is to approach the job search with introspection, analysis and thoughtfulness. This will help you greatly increase your chances of a longer tenure and most importantly, loving your job

When approaching your job search, you should consider:

  • What you like about your current role and company as well as past ones
  • What you dislike about them too
  • What’s important to you in terms of personal and professional growth
  • What your career and life goals are

The answers to these questions will help guide your search. It’s also important to take stock on your own strengths and weaknesses and acknowledging what you could have done differently to make the situations better.

When creating a company list, you should consider things like size, industry, products/services, core values, culture and Glassdoor reviews. The best way to get to know a company and to build relationships is to meet with multiple people within the company. And contrary to belief, a great time to do informational meetings is in December. There are plenty of people who work around the holidays and have time for coffee and lunches—in fact, they usually have more time since it’s so quiet in the office!

If you start now, you can have a fantastic opportunity in early 2019!
