After taking a personal sabbatical, Brinton started his job search. He networked and applied online, but wasn’t getting much traction. Just like with his work, Brinton believed the harder he worked, the better results he’d net. But that wasn’t the case. So he joined our program.
Brinton quickly learned and applied effective job search strategies and immediately got traction. While he experienced some ups and downs throughout his journey, he finally landed a fantastic job at a company with a meaningful mission.
Q&A with Brinton
Q: Why did you decide to invest in the program?
A: I was stuck. I knew I needed to try something new, but wasn’t sure what that something was. A friend of mine had worked with Dream Job Catcher and had a wonderful experience that led to landing an amazing job. After speaking with them, I felt like I’d have a partner in my search and believed I would achieve my goals.
Q: What was it like working with us?
A: It was great. Once I started I knew something was going to be different. My confidence started to return and I started to search with a new level of intent and purpose. No longer was I grabbing any job that may or may not have good fit. Instead, I researched the company and looked at culture and opportunity for growth. I also appreciated how they personalized the program based on my unique situation and needs.
Q: What did you find most valuable?
A: I have always been an adept networker, but with my coach’s help, I took my skills to a new level. I learned how to skillfully navigate an informational and get referrals as well as introductions to key leaders — which led to interviews.
I was also having trouble telling my story. Even though I worked all my life, I wasn’t sure how receptive people were to taking a sabbatical. My coach helped me tell my story in a way that was authentic to me and it was well-received.
My coach also helped hone my interview skills. We walked through all of my experiences and surfaced the most compelling stories. I learned how to balance the “I” with the “we” — focusing on my role and the impact I made. The prep and practice boosted my confidence and I was able to show up as my best self at interviews.
Q: How did you feel throughout the process?
A: Great! The Dream Job Catcher team helped me build momentum and kept me moving forward! With my coach’s advice and tools, my stress decreased. I had a new tempo to my search that also didn’t leave me exhausted each week. I also felt like I could overcome any obstacle that came my way.
Q: How did you land your new job?
A: I reached out to the recruiter at the company and asked to speak to her about the role. This led to an informational and then a screen with the hiring manager. I got invited to an interview loop. I enjoyed meeting with more people on the marketing team and must have made a good impression because I received an offer!
In the end, I received a fantastic offer with a 20% increase in comp and negotiated an additional week vacation!
Q: Did your new job align with your goals?
A: Yes, this job hit almost all my goals. It was important to me to have a role that would help grow my marketing skills and career and at a company that was tackling meaningful challenges like the environment. I also wanted a cross-functional role where I could be strategic and hands-on.

Q: What advice do you have for other job seekers?
A: Job searches are stressful! You don’t have to do it by yourself. Invest in yourself and gain the job search strategies and support you need with expert coaches. It’ll be worth the investment!
