Creative Producer & Director
Christina ran her own video and film production company for nearly two decades. She had a lot of great projects under her belt including documentaries and campaigns for prestigious universities and Fortune 500 companies. But she was missing something — a team. She wanted to join a group of creatives to collaborate on ideas and projects.
After joining our program, Christina landed her dream job within 4 months. She’s now part of a growing production company where she gets to lead cool projects. Most importantly, she gets to work with colleagues who respect and push each other to do their best work.
Q&A with Christina
Q: Why did you decide to invest in the program?
A: I really wasn’t sure how to make the jump to an agency. I started to network, but wasn’t gaining traction and didn’t know what I should be doing differently. Dream Job Catcher connected the dots and gave me the tools to create a strategy that worked for me.
Q: What was it like working with us?
A: I had a partner in my job search. Using the phrase “job search” is misleading because it was really a re-imagining of my career and re-aligning my mindset with my goals. The program provided the tools and counsel throughout my journey.
Q: What did you find most valuable?
A: Many parts of the program were extremely valuable, including regular calls with my coach, the clearly defined steps in the course, revamping my resume and LI profile, crafting my elevator pitch and story and identifying target roles and companies.
Q: How did you feel throughout the process?
A: Once I had my materials, story and networking under control, I felt empowered to pursue the opportunities I wanted and to also turn down opportunities that weren’t the best fit.
Q: How did you land your new job?
A: Through this process, I learned that I was willing to relocate. Once I opened up to other markets, I found opportunities that were much more aligned with what I was looking for and I felt really good about pursuing them. The funny thing about the company I joined is that their application process involves a questionnaire, not a resume.
All the interview practice with my coach paid off. I sailed through the phone screens and the in-person interviews. They made an offer later that week and I accepted. After 6 months, I moved into a leadership role within this growing company. This truly was the best fit for me professionally and personally.
Q: Did it align to your goals?
A: Yes, my new job met all of my goals: finding high quality collaborators, learning new technical skills and advancing into a leadership role within my industry.
Q: What surprised you by the results?
A: I was surprised how open I was to moving out of New York City after 20 years, and into a very small city nearby. I had no idea how easy and exciting that was going to be for me.
Q: What are you loving about your role?
A: I love the freedom of the position. I love that the company is growing and I’m a big part of the growth. And I love the collaboration and the work that we create — it truly is what I had been hoping to do for the last few years.
Q: What advice do you have for other job seekers?
A: Following some key steps in a job search is critical to laying your foundation such as understanding where you are in your career and defining where you want to go. For me, my approach had often been reactive to the opportunities that presented themselves. It’s always better to take a more active approach with an open mindset.
It’s also important to seek out the resources you need (and notice the ones you already have) and then apply them to create opportunities that are aligned with your goals.
