One of my childhood heros was Laura Ingalls Wilder. She’s the author of the series “Little House on the Prairie.” I read all her books and watched all the TV shows — multiple times. I was in awe of the adventures and tragedies of a young girl growing up in the Wild West. She inspired me to write — starting my first journal when I was six.

After reviewing thousands and writing hundreds of resumes, I’ve come to this profound conclusion: it’s freakin hard to create a good resume. While I don’t believe the resume is the most important piece to a job search, it is often the asset that makes the first impression. So it’s critical to have one that captures and highlights your key responsibilities, accomplishments, strengths and skills.

Last week we sponsored and attended the Women In Cloud Summit. Now in its second year, it was incredible and inspiring to be around a thousand women and men who support gender diversity in the tech industry. There were so many great conversations and the energy was invigorating.

One of the most common questions I get from my clients is: Can I get this role? They show me a description of a role they really want. They go line by line and tell me if they’ve done that exact thing or not. They then tally up checks and see how close they are to 100%. And when it’s not close to a perfect score, they tell me why they aren’t likely to get it.
